Synthesis route :
Allyl alpha-Ionone is a pseudoionone synthesized by route similar to conventional ionones. Instead of being the result of a condensation between Citral and acetone, Allyl alpha-Ionone results from a condensation between Citral and allyl acetone. An acid treatment allows to cyclize the intermediate product that is obtained during the previous process.
Synthesis precursor :
Allyl alpha-Ionone is not a precursor to the synthesis of another compound of olfactory interest.
Isomerism :
The Allyl alpha-Ionone used in perfumery is a racemic mixture of cis and trans diastereoisomers of the molecule.
